Design: #161
Date Designed: 1903
Designer: Artus Van Briggle
Description: Floral Design with Stem & Leaves extending length of the tall, slender vase. Covered in shades of Green Glaze. Bottom markings include the inscribed Double-A, Van Briggle, date of 1903, Roman Numeral III for clay type; all in the handwriting attributed to Artus Van Briggle as well as the impressed design #161.
Dimensions: 9 1/2″
Other: The “X-1” handwritten in black has been used previously as a code for an experimental color. Some potteries used an “X” for imperfect pieces, but this does not appear to the case with this beautiful example. This example is a 1903, the first year the design was created.
