Design: #467
Date Designed: 1906
Designer: Unknown
Description: Large bowl with two repeating stylized leaves, appearing six times each, alternating up & down. A striking design, covered with a mottled blue & gray glaze combination. The bottom markings include the incised Double-A, Van Briggle, date of 1906, all in the handwriting attributed to Anne Gregory Van Briggle; in addition to the impressed Design #467. There is also an incised, circled number “3.” There are no known records as to whom this relates.
Dimensions: 10″ width, 8″ width at base, 3 3/4″ height of bowl, 4″ top opening and weighing 4 1/2 lbs.
Other: This is a HTF design; and a very unusual glaze technique. This bowl was produced the first year of the design. J. Emma Kinkead, early VB artist & designer; recalled that after Artus’ death, Anne used the “1” within a circle as her mark. She also believed Ambrose Schlegel was number “2” or “3” within the circle. We have no written records to that effect.
Collection: Private (We appreciate the sharing of information, for we have never seen this design in person or photo, and may never see it again!)
