Design: #766
Date Designed: 1909
Designer: Unspecified in the early VBPCo records
Description: This large beautiful design has an embossed pattern of stylized lotus blossoms within a motif of ribbon style leaf, repeating six times around the top shoulder of the vase. A glaze of Mulberry covers the piece, with a dark blue over spray highlighting the design around the top. The bottom markings include the inscribed Double-A, Van Briggle & Colo. Spgs. on what appears to be the early 1920s gritty clay.
Dimensions: 12″ height, 9 7/8″ diameter at the shoulder, tapering to 5 1/8″ diameter at the bottom.
Other: The #766 is a large, heavy piece of pottery and very difficult to locate today. Although the early VBPCo designs do not indicate the designer name; many collectors would lean toward attributing this fine example and design style to Anne Gregory Van Briggle (Ritter) in 1909.
A vintage pre-1912 VBPCo price list puts this piece in the $22.00 price range!
