Design: #808
Date Designed: 1910
Designer: Anne Gregory Van Briggle
Description: This piece was purchased in the 1930s by the owner’s family member. The geometric, 2-handled pattern is glazed in Turquoise Blue, or sometimes referred to as Ming Turquoise.
Dimensions: This piece is 6 1/2″ height, and 7 1/2″ width from handle to handle.
Other: A larger version of this design is shown on page 67 of the Collectors Encyclopedia of Van Briggle Pottery by Richard Sasicki. That piece is owned by the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum, and is 12″ in height.
It was not uncommon for Van Briggle to produce more than one size of the same design. Artus Van Briggle used the same size designations that had been in use during his time at Rookwood, “A, B, C, D, E” from largest to smallest. An earlier piece, which would be marked with the date, Design # and size, should contain the date and size determination.
Collection: Private Collection
